Mike Smith
EXCITING. PASSIONATE. REAL.
Mike Smith has been a full-time advocate and resource for homeless and runaway youth for the last two years. He meets them under bridges, in abandoned buildings and while they are train hopping. He works hard to help them get into a stable, safe, and consistent living situation.
Mike understands making poor decisions can get you into a tough spot. He knows about hard circumstances that sometimes influence bad choices. Mike uses these lessons to inspire young people to believe in themselves, to dream bigger and run hard to reach them.
The founder of Bay 198, one of the country’s only nonprofit skateparks, Mike doesn’t just talk about changing lives – he lives it. To raise awareness for troubled youth and funds to help provide them a safe productive outlet, he slept under a bridge for 27 straight nights (many frigid) last winter, and skated more than 430 miles across the state in June 2011.
He is a former All-American college basketball player and avid surfer, snowboarder and skateboarder with more than a decade of experience working with young people. Mike is an expert at relating to young people and communication a message of inspiration and hope that they won’t forget.

CONFERENCE KEYNOTE OR SCHOOL ASSEMBLY:

Alton’s story is a message of hope, determination, and motivation for those who feel they have been handcuffed because of their past, statistics, or their current situation. Alton’s simple, yet profound message of No More Handcuffs instills the belief into people that there is nothing they cannot achieve and overcome, when they remove the Mental Handcuffs from their lives.

Workshops:
Urban Youth and Engineering
(Workshop: 60-90 minutes w/optional Q&A)
Why is it is so hard today to get more urban youth involved in the fields of engineering and science? Why are the numbers so low? What is the problem and more importantly, what is the solution? During this workshop, Alton will discuss the 8 Principles of Increased Involvement. As a former mechanical engineer along with humble beginnings in the urban environment, Alton speaks from the heart as someone who intimately and personally understands the complex dynamics behind this problem. When working with urban youth, it’s more than just asking them to take an advance course or to study more. You must truly understand the nature of the urban youth. You must grasp the environment and culture they come from. You must understand the mindset of the people they interact with on a daily basis within their own community. Working with urban youth, at its core, is truly “work.” It reaches beyond the four walls of the classroom.
Meet The P.A.R.E.N.T.S.
(Workshop: 60-90 minutes w/optional Q&A)
This session is geared towards parents and/or guardians to provide them with key secrets to connecting with youth. These keys provide practical insight and personal wisdom that enables any parent and/or guardian to effectively reach any young person. Alton focuses on key issues like the importance of daily quality time and speaking positive affirmations into the life of your children. This session is a great follow-up session to the No More Handcuffs keynote, positively reinforcing the principle that young people can succeed as soon as they remove their Mental Handcuffs.

“The Crazy Ones”
Audience: Teens or Young Adults
Length: 45-60 minutes
“The people, who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
Have you ever met someone who is crazy?
Not the kind where you’re confined to a straight jacket and restricted to ‘Shutter Island’.
I’m talking about the kind of crazy that you don’t understand at first or second or fifteenth glance. The crazy that sits in silence and hears a song that has never been written, the kind that stares at an empty canvas and sees a work of art or gazes at a red planet and see’s a laboratory on wheels.
Johan believes that we all have a little bit of crazy in us that is waiting to be unleashed. His story is CRAZY, to say the least. He is a product of Humboldt Park Chicago, one of the roughest areas in Chicago; an area where he has witnessed everything from friends being killed to family members living destructive lives. An area of Chicago, he was told, he would never get out of. An area where, he was told, he would never make it, never amount to anything, never succeed, never create, never inspire.
Johan refused to believe the messages of his environment. Instead, he was crazy enough to believe his life could make a difference. He was crazy enough to make choices that no one else was making; he decided to live a life worth living as a teen and young adult.
Now he is spending his life encouraging kids to be crazy enough to think that their lives can make a difference. While others use their voice to be “realistic”, Johan motivates kids to move past reality and begin to dream and create even the craziest of possibilities for their lives and the world around them.
Topics Covered in The Crazy Ones Include…
• The Power of Healthy Choices
• The Importance of Goals and Dreams
• Critical Thinking
• Striving for Excellence
• Believing in yourself
• The Significance of Good Role Models
• Becoming an Agent of Change
• Withstanding Peer Pressure

In this informative and thought-provoking session, Johan leads us through some of the primary misconceptions of manhood and then unveils the primal essence of a “man”…
Because being a “man” and a male aren’t one in the same.

Jared Campbell
Award Winning Singer / Songwriter
Jared is an award winning singer/songwriter from upstate New York and has toured the country speaking at hundreds of schools and playing with national acts such as Jason Mraz, Gavin Degraw and even Journey! He sold over 20,000 cd’s independently and had his music featured on hit TV shows such as MTV’s “the Real World” and “Road Rules”.
His main focus is allowing his music to impact the lives of his listeners by
experiencing joy, finding comfort through pain, and looking past obstacles towards living a better life. His songs are said to be
uplifting, thought provoking and emotionally heartfelt. Jared mixes humor, stories of life on road and personal experience to relate to the audience set before him.
Young people have walked away with life changing experiences such as finding their true passion in life, appreciating others around them and ceasing to bully those that are different, stopping their attempts at suicide and forming life lasting relationships with the friends and family surrounding them.
THE BLUE PROJECT
The Blue Project is based around a song written by Jared entitled “Catch a Glimpse of Blue”. The basis behind this song is a story Jared tells about being out for a walk one day under a particularly overcast sky. As he walked he noticed this awesome break in the clouds exposing the clear blue sky behind it. He thought to himself, “this sky is that blue every day. It’s just the clouds in front of it that alter our vision of just how blue it is”. Upon this thought he wrote this song relating life to the blue sky in thinking that life can be amazing but you’re bound to get clouds from day to day. The focus needs to be on the blue and the potential each one of us has to be someone great and not on the clouds we face. Everyday we should be striving to “Catch a
Glimpse of Blue”.
During Jared’s show he takes the students through his life as a musician and the struggle that came with pursuing his dream. Throughout his personal stories he interweaves
stories of how other people have been affected by his songs throughout the years. His approach to relating to students is unlike any other presenter you will see. He mixes humor with
deep emotion and literally takes the listener inside his songs through the use of powerful videos that are played behind him during the show. Students are captivated by his personality
and his way with throwing out phrases only they would get. It’s not all about his music though…if need be he will throw the occasional Justin Bieber hit in there or possibly even a tune
from Journey so the teachers and staff can rock along with him! He sings about fighting for what you believe you’re capable of becoming, the importance of relationships and why “people need people”, tolerance, bullying and recognizing the great things we have in life and focusing on an amazing future!

Most speakers come from a particular field of expertise. Their training is so brand-specific that they are unable to cross over into different fields. Not so with Harriet Turk.
Since 1985, Harriet has worked as a:
◦Probation Officer
◦Youth Programs Coordinator
◦Flight Attendant
◦Pharmaceutical Sales Representative
◦College Professor
◦Nationally known Professional Speaker, Trainer and Consultant
Why different positions in several different fields? Harriet is intrigued by many different careers and loves to work with people. While each position had very different roles, there was one underlying appeal: Connecting with others. In every position, Harriet was regarded as a top performer. In her first year as a pharmaceutical sales rep, Harriet was named Rookie of the Year and the #1 Top Performer. In every position, Harriet was also selected as a trainer, consultant for new programs, and a mentor to new employees.
Harriet will lead your participants on a journey from being ho-hum to being high achievers. Her interactive and energetic presentations combine humor with content, competition with integrity and performance with character.
Teen and Young Adult Programs
Deal With It!
This dynamic leadership program combines humor with a thought-provoking message that shows everyone that we CAN achieve dreams. However, Harriet doesn’t give participants unrealistic hope. Just because “We dream it,” does NOT automatically mean “We achieve it!” By reinforcing the concept that we all possess personal power, participants learn that they are in charge of their choices, but they don’t always get to choose the consequences. Learning how to cope with failure, and trying again are integral components of this program. Harriet leads participants in a “Get real and go for it” journey. Believing in themselves, developing character and living a balanced life are important concepts. This “take charge” program gives inspiration and energy to everyone attending.
Peacemakers In A Violent World
In recent years, homes, schools and communities have become increasingly more violent. Gone are the days of fighting with fists; now more powerful weapons are used. If you want to transform yourself, break the bonds of violence and build the future for others, you need to hear this program. Harriet will give you skills and attitudes that can positively change a non-caring community into a productive one. Conflict resolution, anger management, bullying and creative problem solving are included in this hard-hitting, no-holds barred program.
Are You Dying For A Drink?
In America, drinking and driving is a leading cause of death for youth ages 15 to 19. Speed, reckless driving and non-use of safety belts are all contributing factors. Using her experience, Harriet combines knowledge, humor and real life stories to encourage students to buckle up, not ride with a drinking driver and, most importantly, to “party with style”. (Partying and style do NOT equal consuming ANY alcohol or other substances.) This program is excellent for Prom week.
Why Do I Feel So Fat?
Looking “perfect” is something many young women strive for. In today’s society, the media project body images young women try to buy into. Commonly, young women feel “fat” even when they are below recommended body weights. This program shows young women how body types are made to be different, why it is important to live a healthy lifestyle, and most importantly how to love you. This program is beneficial to women of all ages.
Get Up and Move!
If your group is bored with the same old energizers and games, this workshop is for you! You will learn games and activities to use at meetings, conferences, or any time your members need a break! Highlights getting to know you, breaking barriers, getting out of your comfort zone, teamwork, trust-building, etc. If needed, fund raising and activity ideas may also be included.

◦Replacing Indifference With Energy

Topics Include:
◦Listening Skills
◦Communication Techniques and Body Language
◦Teen Issues (Suicide, Grief, Stress, Alcohol/Drugs, Eating Disorders)
◦Referral Resources/When To Let Go
◦Teambuilding/Leading a Team

Adult Programs
What’s Got You Going?
How do you recapture your passion and invigorate your desire to be a more positive influence? If you feel you have lost sight of why you do or even how you do what you do, you should hear this message and rediscover your commitment to yourself and your lifestyle. This program is excellent for educators!
Performance Building
In this content-rich program, Harriet leads you through the steps to create a more effective work team. How to use your vision, knowledge and leadership skills to strengthen your employee’s talents and willingness to achieve high performance are integral parts of this program. To reach performance goals, you must master simple techniques to create loyal, hard working employees. This program is essential for managers who need to build cooperation and minimize conflict among employees.
Trendsetters
Working with younger employees or reaching teenagers can be difficult for any adult. Trends and dynamics change so quickly, adults just can’t keep up. Harriet will give insights into the clash of the cultures, current trends, and how to cope with change. What at first seems daunting, Harriet will break into pieces and leave you with information you may immediately apply in the workplace, community council or at home.
Women’s Programs
We Fix Stupid
Does it feel like everyone wants a piece of you? Everyone expects you to fix all their problems? Do you feel like you give to everyone, but no one gives to you? If you answered yes to any of these questions, Harriet has developed a program just for you. Women are natural nurturers, and this gets us in trouble! Learning boundaries, taking care of ourselves, and teaching others how to treat us are concepts women have the hardest time learning. Harriet has audiences howling with laughter one minute, and wiping away tears the next. Every women’s group, regardless of age or marital status, can benefit by hearing the message, “We Fix Stupid”.
Matt McFadyen
Adventurer & Speaker
Matt McFadyen grew up in suburban Sydney fascinated by the mysteries of life beyond the confines of his home and familiar surroundings.
In December 2003, Matt McFadyen ‘the adventurer’ was born when, at the tender age of 22 years, he set sail for Antarctica in the company of five like-minded adventurers.
Taking a 43-foot yacht across the most dangerous ocean on earth was no easy task. Having to navigate fields of icebergs while beset by storms of mammoth intensity, Matt was forced to draw on every ounce of courage and perseverance he could muster as nature surely tested his resolve and that of his fellow adventurers.
The meticulous planning and preparatory work that had taken two years to complete paid off in January 2004 when the team reached Commonwealth Bay Antarctica. For four days the hardy adventurers explored the pristine wilderness that is Antarctica. A life changing experience for any person let alone one so young as Matt.
On the return voyage Matt again experienced the raw force and power of nature. The small craft was pounded by a massive storm 550 nautical miles south of Tasmania. Waves of up to fifty feet high swept across the yacht knocking it over several times. The whole crew had to struggle for their life’s as the waves continued to knock the boat over. This harrowing experience and the raw power of nature inspired and motivated Matt to further adventures.
He has since become the youngest Australian to ski to the North Pole, having made several last degree expeditions.
When not exploring the Polar Regions Matt makes his living as a sought after international Motivational Speaker. His presentations focus on his years of exploring the end’s of the earth and the hardships and lessons learnt while pitting himself against some of the most extreme conditions this planet has to offer. Matt’s presentations come complete with stunning audio visuals.
As a young adventurer, speaker and leader Matt is second to none. His achievements at such a young age are testimony to his hard work and motivation.
Antarctica - Turning the dream into reality
At 2am on a cold January morning 1000 miles from land a crew of 5 weary sailors returning home from an epic Antarctic adventure were about to have their lives changed forever.
On deck was 22 year old adventurer Matt McFadyen. Little did he know a 50 foot high mountain of water was bearing down on the crew, about to explode on top of them, about to knock their yacht upside down in the middle of the Great Southern Ocean, thus beginning a fight for survival, a fight for life.
Adventurer and master storyteller Matt McFadyen will take you on this amazing journey, eloquently guiding you across the full spectrum of raw human emotion. From the dizzying highs of reaching his goal to deep troughs of despair when faced with almost loosing his life at sea and what it took to get through this.
Along the way you will learn that with commitment, hard work and dedication we are all capable of turning our dreams into reality. Above all you will be inspired motivated and moved.

Scott Backovich
Youth Speaker, Teen Educator, (Self-Proclaimed) Genius
Pop culture-referencing, Facebook-poking, teen advice whiz Scott Backovich is making a significant impact on tens of thousands of students in audiences around the United States and Canada.
Travels from: California
Witty by nature, caring at heart: for youth speaker Scott Backovich, this is merely the tip of the iceberg. Scott’s quirky yet powerful style and message speak to students at their own level, helping them to understand the true potential they hold.
Scott recognizes the monotonous cycle that students can undoubtedly fall into while in high school. After spotting the pattern during his own sophomore year, he decided to be bold and make a change. By the age of 21, Scott had presented to thousands of students, appeared as a guest on international radio and student leadership podcasts, and had gained positive recognition around the United States for his compelling message.
As someone still in his 20‘s, Scott realizes that students today need to be reached in new and innovative ways. From cell phones to Twitter updates, Facebook to YouTube, teens have both grown up in and created a culture that has redefined what it means to connect. Scott understands. He has dedicated his life to connecting with and empowering students everywhere. On any given day, he can be found not only speaking on stages around North America, but also reaching out to teens on various student-based sites. For Scott, it’s not about talking at students; it’s about connecting with them where they are.
“Those bad things that have happened to you, that baggage that you have? It does NOT define you. How you choose to grow from it, will.”
Today, Scott resides in Southern California amongst friends and family, who inspire him daily. When not speaking onstage, he can be found exploring Disneyland, relaxing with friends, or wrapping up in a warm Snuggie (yes, we’re talking about the blanket with sleeves).
Scott was phenomenal! He was so great that I could not pass up the opportunity to include him in our seminar next year. One simple word to describe Scott – OUTSTANDING!!
– Chenique Murphy, Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar
Conference Keynote/Assembly Presentation:
Be a Catalyst
Scott’s presentations begin as a giant party. In one moment, students are laughing hysterically, moving actively on their feet, and shouting “ROCK ON!” at the top of their lungs. Yet only minutes later, that same room is silent; students find themselves hanging on to every word of Scott’s heartfelt and challenging message. It is at this point that the students in attendance realize they are no longer watching a presentation to an audience of hundreds or even thousands—they are hearing their own personal call to action.
“Scott is different because he doesn’t demand anything. He simply asks students what they should be demanding from themselves and from each other… getting them to aspire to a higher calling, a higher purpose. Scott’s speech laid the groundwork for our entire leadership program.”
- Craig Sutphin, Director of Student Leadership, St. Mary’s HS, Berkeley, CA
Scott gets that students have a HUGE impact on those around them—from their casual acquaintances at school to the close friends they see virtually 24/7. Each and every student has the power to influence their world in some way, shape, or form. Before changing anything, though, each student must undoubtedly recognize that the world in which they live is not perfect by any means. It takes passion and determination to make it a better place.
Regardless of the situation, capacity, or context, the only way students will truly change their circumstances is if they decide to be a catalyst—someone who changes the status quo.

As a former program facilitator for the Los Angeles Museum of Tolerance, and as the grandson of a holocaust survivor, Scott Greenberg will remind students of the importance of mutual respect, courtesy and school unity. Senor Chocolate, a tough-talking Latino gangster, arrives on stage with trade-mark baggy pants, shades, trench coat and a red bandanna. Using a thick Spanish accent to make his point, he begins with accounts of his personal gang-life experiences to illustrate gang attitudes and behaviors. He challenges his audience to critically assess their own perceptions. He asks them to acknowledge the fact that violence and hopelessness will continue to affect our communities if apathy persists.
After sharing his gang-life experiences, Senor Chocolate presents The Change; an apt metaphor long to be remembered. While shedding his gang clothing, he explains The Change that occurred in his life—and can occur in anyone’s life. Willie Lopez
Si Se Puede! You can Do It!
Willie Lopez was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Like many other immigrants, he came to the “El Norte” (America) as a child with his parents hoping for a better way of life. Willie spent most of his childhood in hiding from “La Migra,” the immigration.
Throughout his formative years, he was constantly exposed to the harsh reality of farm labor work, gangs, drugs, and discrimination. With the help of family and strangers, he eventually escaped that life.
Travels from: California
Bilingual/Bicultural (Spanish)
“Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who YOU are.”
He credits his success to his parents and various strangers. His father provided patience and humility. His mother gave him strength and confidence. Complete strangers showed him how words and simple actions can make a difference. When he once asked how he could return the favor, he was told to return it to someone else. He did! That same advice is the core of his message. The power of those simple words changed his life completely.
Having had extensive experience as a storyteller, Willie is able to capture his audience through colorful illustrations of his personal real life experiences. Willie is a master at transforming himself on stage from a compesino (farm worker), to a homeboy (gang member), to a child named “Zapotitos”, Lil Tadpole. Willie is bilingual/bicultural in Spanish. He has served as professor at California State University in Fresno, trainer for the State Office of AIDS, counselor for Fresno County Human Services System, technical assistant for California Department of Education, and director of “Teatro de Las Cucarachas” which toured the United States, Mexico and Central America.
CHOICES: You Can Be Part of the Solution or Part of the Problem
(keynotes and workshops for students, educators, school administrators, parents)
Guillermo “Willie” Lopez, from Huichole Mexican Indian heritage, dressed in humble attire, enters with a silent and mysterious presence. His deceptive appearance quickly reveals his wit and ability to immediately capture your interest. Using the skills of the ancient art of story telling through humor and intrigue, he then lays the foundation of his message. He paints the mental pictures of how to effectively incorporate old customs with present values. The wisdom of his words soon takes his audience into a roller coaster ride of emotions. Willie reveals his message of hope and what it takes to achieve it.
The CHOICES he made in his confrontations with “los Federales” (the Mexican police), “las Pandillas” (the gangs) in California, and “la Migra” (the immigration) allows Mr. Lopez to explain how one can overcome the odds. Through the transformation from campesino, to homeboy, to a child seeking answers, he is able to depict the different stages in his life. Willie’s experiences and CHOICES he made as a professor at a University, an inmate in a correctional institution, and his association with heroin and violence also adds to his unique understanding of every level of society.
Topics he can include in a CHOICES presentation include:
Gang Prevention
Conflict Resolution
Teen Pregnancy
Drug and Alcohol Issues
HIV/AIDS
Parent/Child Communication
Youth Conflicts

The Power of Reciprocity
We live in an age where it seems everyone is out for themselves. After all, “If you want it done right, you have to do it yourselfâ€. Right? Wrong. It turns out that, collectively, we are far more powerful and capable, more gets done and we feel much greater levels of satisfaction when we work together to create as a group rather than taking as an individual. With a broad look at schools and student culture, we can see opportunities everywhere to help students and teachers to put the power of reciprocity to work in order to motivate students, solve discipline challenges and create higher levels of accomplishment. Wonderfully, we don’t have to work harder to achieve it; we just need to work together.

Steve Russo
Every choice has a consequence
Steve Russo is an internationally known communicator, prolific author, Radio/TV host and professional drummer. He has been featured on ABC, CBS and NBC news broadcasts, as well as “The O’Reilly Factor” on the Fox News Channel. Steve is a member of the Recording Academy (Grammy Awards) and is a graduate of the Arrow Leadership Program.
Steve has spoken to teenagers and parents in the United States, Canada and in 25 other countries. He has a unique way to connect with, engage and influence his audiences with his background as a professional drummer. Steve is currently sponsored by the following equipment manufacturers: DW Drums, SABIAN Cymbals, Vic Firth Drumsticks and Evans Drum heads.
Travels from: California
In his “Choices” assembly program, Steve draws on example after example from his own experiences, from nightclub gigs while still in high school - to studio work - to entertaining some of the top names in movies and television.
Teens respond positively and decisively as they identify with his lifestyle values and apply them in their own lives. Steve dramatically reinforces the need for value-driven personal relationships and for completing high school successfully.
He contrasts these with the disastrous damage to relationships as a result of poor choices with things like drug use, alcohol abuse, violence, pre-marital sex and suicide. Steve concludes each assembly with five practical ways to make better choices.
The over-arching theme of Steve’s assembly program for junior high, middle school and high school students is “how you choose to live today will determine how you live tomorrow.” He is able to easily adapt his assembly for different age groups and to bring special emphasis for programs like MADD, DARE, Every 15 Minutes, Red Ribbon Weeks and Kick Butts/Smoke Out weeks.
Steve Russo is the speaker of choice for not only assemblies but also student leadership events, camps, retreats and conferences. In addition to his “Choices” assembly, Steve has other programs available including:
Freedom to Be Yourself (Students)
In “The Freedom to Be Yourself” assembly, Steve tackles a huge influence on a teen’s life - peer pressure or the pressure to conform. He vividly illustrates how peer pressure can affect what we think about ourselves, parents, language, actions, values and right verses wrong. Using captivating stories and real life examples, Steve exposes peer pressure for what it is - self imprisonment and practically equips teens how to become inner-directed rather than outer directed. He often uses his drums with this assembly program as well to connect with teens in a unique way.
Choose to Lead Student Leaders
Having studied leadership on a doctorate level, Steve is able to offer a unique perspective for student leaders in his “Choose to Lead” program. In practical ways that students can easily relate to, he discusses the character qualities of a leader and how this affects their ability to effectively lead and to bring about change. This special session is challenging, fun and practical for students who have decided to participate in the adventure of leading others.
Raising Healthy Kids in a Damaged World (Parents)
Life can be confusing and complex for kids today with outside pressures and an ever changing social environment. And it’s not easy being a mom or dad - especially if you’re a single parent. This event provides practical answers about young people that every parent, youth worker and concerned adult needs to know to develop a more effective parenting strategy. Topics covered include:
- Understanding what the world of a young person is really like
- Parenting a Digital Generation
- Building positive relationships with your kids
- Helping kids develop security, significance and acceptance
This program works well for individual schools and on a district-wide level.

Topic: Being Positive: Students learn that they are more likely to enjoy an experience if they go at it with a positive attitude.
Benefit: Schools today can be a negative place. Some students have a tendency to pre-judge everything as “stupid”. A change in this attitude can really help a school climate.
Topic: Open: Students learn to be open to new experiences, places, and people.
Benefit: When students aren’t afraid to try new things and meet new people it helps them get involved. They join more clubs, school spirit increases as well as an overall pride in their school.
Topic: Sincerity: Students realize the importance of being truthful and honest with one another.
Benefit: Students and Educators alike will notice the difference in the school community as a whole when students trust each other.
Topic: Spirit: Students see how to increase school spirit as well as why it is important to do so.
Benefit: By learning to have spirit in everything that they do students will take more pride in their work.
Topic: Not Being Exclusive: By learning to include others and incorporate others’ talents students will see that more can be accomplished when working together.
Benefit: There are countless students that don’t feel like they belong anywhere. When those students are included a school is safer and a more positive experience for all.
Mike Schlappi
If You Can't Stand Up - Stand Out!
Lying on a bed paralyzed, with a bullet hole in his chest, Mike promised that if he survived, he would share his unique story all over the world and help as many people as he could. This is happening!
Mike knows that the most important part of any meeting or organization is the people. Whether speaking to a global financial corporation or a community medical facility, he has seen their results change when the beliefs of their people change.
Travels from: Utah
He inspires real people, with real problems, to respond differently; teaching that attitude is not a mood, but a position we take regardless of circumstances. That is his specialty!
Obviously Mike has had a few challenges in his life. But he also has a few Olympic gold medals, a few college degrees, has written a few books, runs a few successful businesses, has a few passions and has a few kids (five to be exact). This is all possible because he “walks the talk” (or rolls the scroll).
Some of Mike’s most requested industries are:
Financial Institutions
Mike has his life, health and securities licenses. He is a managing partner in a financial planning firm, and has his MBA from Arizona State University giving him credibility in the financial industry. He has had much success inspiring and motivating sales forces and support personnel within these organizations.
Healthcare
Mike has a background in Healthcare - His personal experiences with nurses, doctors and therapists not only saved his life, but also pointed him to a career in healthcare. He served as the Director of Rehabilitation for Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City for 10 years, giving him credibility with audiences in the healthcare arena.
Education
Mike comes from a family of educators. He taught Liberal Arts at Arizona State University while earning his MBA with an emphasis in Healthcare Administration. More importantly, his presentations center around the support he received from his friends, teachers, and family as he put his life back together.
Corporations
Mike’s message is a perfect fit for both large and small corporations who are forced to make changes to adapt and thrive in today’s shifting world. Through entertaining and personal stories, Mike teaches: If you resist change - you fail. If you accept change - you survive. If you create change - you succeed!
Safety
Mike’s story is a moving and powerful example of the importance of safety. At the age of 15 Mike was shot in the chest, by a friend, at point blank range; paralyzing 2/3 of his body. Mike faces challenges daily because of the split second decision that was made in regards to safety or the lack there of. His compelling message changes the way people think about carelessness and the magnitude of their decisions in the work place.
Mike Lee
Dare To Dream
Michael Lee was severely burned in an explosion and fire that left him totally blind at age 13.
After the accident, Michael experienced a temporary slump before emerging with amazing determination and zest for life that is absolutely unstoppable.
Travels from: California
A native of California, Michael was, and still is, the “All American Boy.” Snow skiing, water skiing, surfing, bowling, “beep” baseball, and golf are only some of the sports in which he participates. He is also a single parent facing the challenges and enjoying the rewards of raising his young daughter, Robin, on his own.
Together with his faithful assistant, Miguel, a trained Guide Dog for the Blind, Michael has turned his blindness into a mere inconvenience. In his eyes, being blind is not so much a handicap as a challenge. His resilience in overcoming the limitations of blindness to become a successful speaker, stand-up comedian and single parent offers inspiration and hope to all who meet him.
Yes, Michael is blind, but he has an incredible vision to share! He knows that you don’t have to see to believe—but you have to believe to see.
Dare To Dream: Achieving Your Potential
(assemblies, conference keynotes for youth or adults)
By combining past experiences with his humorous point-of-view, Michael Lee shares his story and many valuable lessons he learned along the way. After Michael was burned and blinded at 13, it took great determination to rebuild his self-esteem and positive attitude toward life. Michael helps students find this same self-esteem and courage within themselves in order to face challenges without succumbing to the false solutions offered by alcohol and other drugs. Michael’s unstoppable zest for life empowers young people to accept their challenges and move forward with strength and determination.
Leadership According to Miguel: The Canine Points of Leadership
(student leadership keynote, workshop)
Miguel is a trained Guide Dog with over 10,000 hours of leadership training! Through Michael, Miguel shares his secret Canine (K-9) Points of Leadership and gives advice on making responsible choices. YES, you can learn from The Amazing Miguel—a true expert in the area of leadership! Student leaders come to see how important their role is to their school and the students they serve.
Better Understanding
(student, adult workshop)
Michael presents a new perspective on facing life’s challenges as a cultural diversity issue. He also explores the human side of physical challenges (tolerance and acceptance) and the true spirit of ADA (Americans With Disabilities.) This can be a very interactive workshop which includes a blind walk.
Russ Peak
Life Changing Motivation with Mind Bending Fun!
Nationally Acclaimed Author, Entertainer, and Inspirational Speaker.
It’s not often that you’re able to find an award-winning magical entertainer, a powerful inspirational speaker, and one of the nation’s leading authorities on youth motivation packaged into one powerful keynote presenter. Therefore, I would like to introduce you to Russ Peak.
Russ Peak is a dynamic one-of-a-kind presenter who knows how to take your audience beyond the limits of their imagination. He does this with an interactive performance of extraordinary mental feats, mind-boggling magic, incredible demonstrations of hypnosis, and a high-energy motivational message that is all blended together with a side-splitting dose of comedy!
Travels from: Oregon
Since 1993, Russ has performed his dynamic mix of ‘Magic of the Mind’ over two-hundred times each year for a variety of audiences. He has been featured nationwide at both corporate and campus events, by cruise ships and resorts, conventions and conferences, theme parks and fairs, on television, and by corporate giants including IBM, Compaq, AT&T, Intel, Yahoo, Hewlett-Packard, and Disney.
Russ Peak is an award-winning member of the Society of American Magicians and Hollywood’s Magic Castle.
In 2001, Russ was offered his own showroom at a casino located on the World Famous Las Vegas Strip, an honor considered to be one of the highest compliments in the entertainment industry. There Russ was to present a nightly act showcasing his skills of comedy, mindreading, and stage hypnosis. However, after a brief trial period, Russ realized that Vegas was not where he wanted to be. This was not why he became an entertainer. He evaluated his situation and decided to focus his speaking where his passion lies - SPEAKING TO OUR NATION’S YOUTH.
Since that time, Russ has used his outstanding talents to entertain teens & young adult audiences to enhance his motivational presentations making him one of the most sought after keynote speakers in the fields of student motivation, teamwork and leadership. His assembly programs have changed the lives of over two-million teens in all 50 states. To this effect, the National Speakers Association (NSA) recently acknowledged Russ’ commitment to excellence on the platform by honoring him with the Certified Speaking Designation (CSP), a recognition bestowed upon less than 10% of the thousands of professional speakers worldwide and even less than a fraction of a percent of entertainers.
Author of one of the leading books on TEEN SUCCESS and GOAL-SETTING skills
Studies have shown that 85% of teens complete their higher education without learning the importance and technique for setting goals. So, in 2007 Russ took it upon himself (with the help of several leadership advisors, teachers, and youth speaking friends) to write ‘Invent Your Future’ - an interactive book that takes the sometimes confusing process of effective goal-setting and breaks it down to easy to understand steps in a way that today’s youth can grasp. This book is available in bookstores world-wide and is the focal point of Russ Peak’s workshop of the same name.
“As an educator and director of student activities I am always looking for ways, tools and resources to help my students succeed. I find Russ’s book to be one of those tools. Russ has set up the book with stories that teach as well as enlighten and the tasks after each chapter are simple yet profound. My favorite stories, of course, are the ones where Russ reflects back to his days in school and comes to realizations that lessons are being taught by teachers in the simplest of manners and in the simplest of ways… one’s that don’t become evident until you get older. Russ has taken the complex and has made it simple for my students to digest and I thank him for that.”
- Paul Chylinkski, educator
SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???
Every one of Russ Peak’s presentations is guaranteed to be high-energy, full of audience participation, packed with laughs, and always 100% clean! So, whether you want Russ Peak to motivate your audience with his MOTIVATIONAL KEYNOTE, or to keep them rolling in the aisles with his side-splitting COMEDY HYPNOTIST ACT, you can be sure that both you and your audience will clearly see why Russ Peak is named as one of America’s most highly acclaimed motivational entertainers, and a master of making your next event a memorable experience!
USE YOUR MIND
(Russ Peak’s most popular keynote program)
Get ready for a high-energy AND motivational presentation that will give your group the tools they need to effectively navigate their goals and achieve the impossible!
Russ Peak walks on stage like any other motivational speaker. Yet he carries with him a few simple items—a pen, a newspaper, a drawing pad, and a few envelopes. Then right from the start, he proceeds to capture the imaginations of the whole audience as they realize Russ is going to lead them through an interactive and mind-boggling experience that they will never forget!
Russ is recognized as one of the world’s most skilled mentalists or “thought readers”!
When Russ Peak takes the stage, it’s not just a performance —it’s a mind-blowing presentation of the “IMPOSSIBLE”. Unspoken thoughts are revealed from the minds of spectators, the outcome of impossible situations are correctly predicted, unseen designs are drawn and duplicated, and borrowed objects are used in ways that can be only explained as unbelievable!Yet Russ clearly explains to the audience that he is not psychic, nor does he possess ESP, or any extraordinary or supernatural powers. Russ Peak is a MAGICIAN OF THE MIND. He uses these demonstrations of seemingly extraordinary powers to captivate, entertain, inspire, and teach that:
If you put your mind to it… ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!
Russ says: “I believe that the technique and discipline used to accomplish any feat is within the grasp of each of us. We simply need to define our goals, push beyond the limits, and establish a path that will lead us to victory. You can go through life trying to predict the future… hoping and guessing what might happen tomorrow. Or you can decide what you want, go after it, and INVENT THE FUTURE!”
** This program can be easily designed around your theme. A few popular uses for this program include: Freshman Orientation, Drug & Alcohol Awareness, Character Building, Bullying & Student Respect, Leadership, Testing Motivation, and Overcoming Senioritis.
The USE YOUR MIND keynote is a truly transformational presentation. Your audience will be both entertained and motivated as they learn real-life goal setting skills in a one-of-a-kind presentation that is filled with humor, magic of the mind, and an incredible high-energy message that is guaranteed to take their minds and actions from the ordinary to the extraordinary!
MORE PROGRAMS:
Bring Out The Magic In People

Plus, they’ll discover “The Four A’s of Leadership”: Acceptance, Approval, Appreciation, and Attitude.
Invent Your Future
(Conference Breakout and Leadership)
The process of goal-setting is sometimes more complex than it may first seem. It starts with a desire and ends with the fulfillment of that desire. Yet, in between there is plenty of action that may or may not keep us from the goal. Invent Your Future is an interactive session for teens that breaks down and simplifies the effective way to set goals. Principals are taught through a mix of humorous stories and insightful activities on the subjects of Success, Goal-Setting, Belief, Determination, Taking Risks and more. This session is based on his book by the same title.
The Attitude of Success
(Advisor and Staff Sessions)
Why should the students have all the fun? Join Russ Peak for an interactive experience designed to guide teachers and advisors, both new and old, through the skill of developing an attitude of success in the classroom. In this session, your participants will be challenged to define their teaching mission, learn to identify and use their strengths in the classroom, bring out the best in their students, and of course do a little magic! Packed with fun, laughter, and inspiration.
JUST FOR FUN ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMS:
Comedy Hypnosis Show
(High Schools & Universities, Conferences, Homecomings, and Grad Nights!)
It doesn’t get any more exciting than when you choose to invite a hypnotist to entertain at your next assembly. Again and again hypnosis is consistently voted the #1 favorite type of variety entertainment by campuses across the nation. That’s because when over thirty volunteers are brought up on stage and quickly placed into a hypnotic trance, audience participation takes on a whole new meaning. From this point forward, the laughter is non-stop because Russ Peak’s subjects become the stars of the show! They turn into their favorite celebrities, meet visitors from different worlds, forget their names, lose their belly buttons, travel back to their childhood, become firemen and savage barbarians, join the Russian ballet, and take place in the most captivating and hilarious hypnotic experiments ever performed! As for the rest of the audience, watching it all happen is incredible fun and simply mind-boggling!
** Russ Peak is a Board Certified Hypnotherapist since 1995. He has hypnotized over 100,000 subjects over approximately 1,000 hypnosis shows. No two shows are ever alike. The things that they do have in common are that every presentation is packed with laughs, full of audience participation, and always 100% clean and appropriate for every audience!
Russ Peak’s Incredible World of Magic and Mindreading
(Entertainment for all ages)
You’ll find that Russ’ amazing powers of the mind are only surpassed by his ability to make your audience smile. It’s not quite clear if he is a comedian with the power to read your mind… or a mind reader who keeps his audiences rolling in laughter as he plucks unspoken thoughts out of their minds. This hilarious presentation was written with your corporate audience in mind. At no point in the act is anyone made to be embarrassed or ‘picked on’.
Whether entertaining students or adult… on campus or in clubs… Russ Peak’s material is never sexual, sexist, racist or political and is always guaranteed to be 100% clean. No one not even the most conservative audience member will raise an eyebrow.
Justin Lookadoo
Speaker, Author & Safety Consultant
Justin was a Juvenile Probation Officer.
He spent nearly six years as a Crime Prevention Specialist. This allowed him to see the “before” and “after” of crime prevention. Justin developed and implemented programs for 28 elementary schools. By 2000, the referral rate to the department of corrections was 61% LESS than what was projected.
Travels from: Texas
Justin has a biology degree.
But don’t call him a science geek! He graduated from Tarleton State University, where he spent a lot of time studying the body, especially how it works and how drugs and chemicals can mess up your insides as well as how gender differences impact the development of the human brain. He talks about drugs, not as someone who has tried them (he hasn’t), but as a biologist who knows the truth behind all of the myths. Justin breaks down the complicated jargon into bite-size pieces that are easy to understand.
Justin is bilingual.
Many children in the early elementary classes he works with were missing out on important programs because they spoke only Spanish. So Justin moved to Mexico for three months and studied Spanish for eight hours a day. ¡Que Bueno! Now he offers elementary programs in both English and Spanish. It’s very cool to see the kids faces when “the tall man” starts to speak their language.
Justin is an award-winning author!
He is a #1 bestselling author for his book Dateable and has had three other books on the bestseller lists. Two of his books have been nominated for the prestigious Gold Medallion Award and he has sold over 275,000 books nationwide. Not bad for a kid whose two worst subjects were reading and writing.

Student Keynote: Be YOUnique
Today’s teenagers have to deal with issues ranging from anorexia and pregnancy to suicide and school shootings. The increasing number of broken homes and divorces explain the unprecedented percentage of students who choose to turn to drugs, sex, and alcohol.
Teenagers don’t always see the link between today’s actions and the consequences of tomorrow, so now is an opportunity for students to discover their true self.
Justin’s keynote inspires students to Be YOUnique and challenges them to:
- Accept Themselves, Understand Others
- Connect with and Act on their Dreams
- Deflate Peer Pressure
- Un-clique and Be Real
- Master School & Life
Educator Keynote: EDGE-ucator
Justin wastes no time getting participants’ attention with statements like: “I don’t believe in education.” Then, after a few uncomfortable moments follows with; “However, I do believe in educators/parents. That is why I am presenting this keynote to you instead of encyclopedias and dictionaries.”
Justin’s humor continues to shine through as he shares his experience as a successful coach. He believes every educator/parent is a coach, they just don’t know it. Justin will inspire most if not everyone attending to get their lives in shape by running two marathons a year. Not with your legs but with your heart.
In closing, Justin shares a simple and effective model that will make you reflect on the importance of building rapport with youth.

Tiana Tozer
The Journey from 6 Foot 1 to 4 Foot 5
Tiana Tozer has been speaking for more than 20 years, sharing her story with teens across the United States and Canada encouraging them to make responsible choices and take responsibility for choices they make, good and bad.
In 1988, Tiana’s life changed when an intoxicated driver ran a stop sign and hit the car in which she was riding. She spent more than a month in intensive care, endured more than 30 surgeries, and spent four years learning to walk again.
Since then Tiana’s life has been about exceeding limitations she went on to become a Paralympic athlete, activist, University of Oregon’s 2010 Outstanding Young Alumni and a humanitarian aid worker in Iraq and Sudan. And because she’s overcome tremendous odds and perceived limitations, she challenges young people to do the same – reject constraints others may place on them.
With her personal story and humor, she encourages teens to look beyond the label, question their complacency towards the legal drug of alcohol, and helps young people understand that some choices are forever.
Travels from: Oregon
Tiana Tozer was born in Eugene, Oregon and raised on a farm outside of Boise, Idaho. After a fairly normal childhood, Tiana went to college at the University of Oregon.
In her sophomore year, Tiana was run over by an intoxicated driver. She spent a month and five days in intensive care and has undergone 34 surgeries. After four years of struggling to walk, Tiana learned that a wheelchair would become a permanent part of her life.
While doctors worked on her physically, Tiana worked to heal herself emotionally by sharing her experiences with high school students throughout Oregon.
She went on to graduate school at the University of Illinois where she played wheelchair basketball. In her sport, Tiana holds four national titles, a silver medal from the Barcelona Paralympics and a bronze medal from Atlanta. In 1993 she graduated from the University of Illinois with a MA in International Relations.
Tiana always thought she would grow up to be ambassador to France, but like everything else in her life, it didn’t quite go as planned.
Her dream of an international career was broadsided at age 20 when an intoxicated driver ran a stop sign and hit the car in which she was riding. She spent a month and five days in intensive care and after 34 surgeries and four years she learned to walk again.
Since that fateful afternoon in 1988, Tiana’s story has taken a positive turn. She was a member of USA Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Team chosen to compete in theAtlanta and Barcelona Paralympics where she brought home the silver and bronze medals.
Tiana’s story and activities have drawn media attention; she has been interviewed numerous times for her work to eradicate drinking and driving, to her sports and her public speaking. In 1990, she was the subject of a documentary “The Tiana Tozer Story.” She has presented to thousands of teenagers across the U.S. on responsible choices and self-esteem and spoken to hundreds of groups nationwide including the Society of Human Resource Management, the Securian sales conference and Special Olympics Oregon. More recently she was featured on MSNBCs Making a Different segment and National Public Radio’s Here And Now. In 2010 she was recognize as University of Oregon’s outstanding young alumni. Most recently she was keeping a somewhat lower profile working as a humanitarian aid worker in the middle of a civil war in Sudan.
Tiana was first published nationally in 2006 on Starbucks Cup #83. Her short story “Satan’s Performance Review” was published by The Wittenburg Door in the October 2007 issue. She is the author of numerous, brilliant, but as yet undiscovered essays and she writes a pretty good annual Christmas letter.
Currently, she is working on her memoir and collecting rejection letters, which she hopes to one day paper her second bathroom with — actually it’s going to be a half-bath.
Tiana loves to ski and travel. She spent her formative years on a farm in Boise, Idaho where she acquired the little-known and even less appreciated skill of hypnotizing chickens.
Taking the Stairs (youth and adults)
Programs
Taking the Stairs
Tiana Tozer limps on stage and immediately addresses how someone who walks can play wheelchair basketball.
Through humorous stories she addresses people’s misconceptions about people with disabilities. Although many funny things have happened to her since she started using a wheelchair, there is nothing humorous about how she ended up with this disability.
Tiana captures the audience as she shares her recovery journey—the victories and setbacks. Skillfully, she then challenges the student’s complacency towards the legal drug of alcohol.
After sharing her hospital stories, Tiana illustrates the power of choices through role playing with audience “volunteers.” She addresses the unimportance of physical looks, and instead emphasizes the importance of actions and behavior. Tiana empowers everyone to make good choices and take responsibility for those choices.
Tiana offers unique insight into what happens after the party. She has spoken at hundreds of high schools for MADD, she has presented at student leadership conferences, judicial and human resource conferences, pre-prom, Red Ribbon and “What I wish I could have told you” programs. She also lobbied for the .08 law in Idaho, Illinois and Nevada … successfully.
In “Taking the Stairs” Tiana can focus on:
- Drinking and Driving
- Drug Use
- Peer Pressure
- Self-Image
- Athletes and Alcohol
- Bullying
- Suicide prevention
- Responsible choices
- General Motivation
- Student Leadership
Becoming the Leader you want to Follow (workshop for keynote follow-up)
What makes a good leader? It doesn’t take a book to figure out. Everyone already has the basics thanks to a bad teacher, boss or coach; and Tiana uses those experiences to demonstrate principles that participants can use in any circumstance that requires them to take a leadership role.
As she discusses her ten principles, Tiana draws from her own history as a member of the USA Women’s Wheelchair Basketball team, a manager and an employee, sharing those stories with humor and insight.
Motivating the Motivators (workshop for keynote follow-up)
Working with youth can be difficult. Like any job there are successes and failures, but unlike other jobs there is a heightened level of heartbreak or inspiration.
Tiana shares the three rules that advisors, teachers or anyone who works with youth needs to keep in mind. (And yes, there are only three.) Tiana draws from her own experience as a youth advisor and speaker, sharing stories about the kids she helped and the ones she lost. She also speaks to a need rarely discussed: self-evaluation and self-care for those who work with America’s greatest commodity—its youth.
The Truth About “There” (corporate keynote)
Have you ever said to yourself, “I’ll be happy when I . . .”? Tiana Tozer was one of those people — never happy with her location and always looking ahead … until Iraq. Caught in the middle of two civil wars, Tiana shares the not-so glamorous aspects of overseas work with humor, including the joys of co-housing (like seeing the finance manager in his towel every morning) and how being bombed every Thursday night cut down on her reading.
Tiana shares how she became so goal-oriented, the barriers she faced in achieving her dreams and her disappointment when actual experiences did not live up to her expectations.
Through the story of the search for her dream job, Tiana discusses the difficulties of getting hired when you have a disability and dispels misconceptions about people with disabilities. Includes her Bad Managers/Good Lessons segment, throw away your 300-page book! You only need to know ten things to be a good manager.
After sharing her work stories, Tiana illustrates the attitude barriers people with disabilities face through role playing with audience “volunteers.”
Travel with Tiana to Iraq and Sudan on a journey that will reveal the truth about “there” and how the search for fulfillment, happiness and contentment took one woman across the world and back home again.

Susie builds a unique rapport with teens and many become open to change where it is often desperately needed. Legacy of Hope is presented in four segments:
PERFORMANCE - Susie opens her program by hip-hopping right into the hearts of her audience. Through dance and acting, she portrays many characters who face obstacles and choices familiar to all youth and adults.
SPEECH - Following the artistic portion of her program, Susie becomes a captivating speaker who hits home by sharing her personal stories of living in an alcoholic, addicted and abusive home. She knows what it is to overcome adversity and reclaim self-esteem, establish personal policies, and to commit to a life of emotional and spiritual maturity, values and healthy choices.
QUESTION AND ANSWER PERIOD - Susie includes concrete prevention information and solutions within her program as well as thought provoking question and answer sessions with audiences, as time allows. Susie is a tremendous resource for schools, leaders, parents, and educators.
ON SITE SUPPORT - As a prevention specialist, Susie remains on site 2 to 4 additional hours following her performance to support and mentor students who are seeking her advice—one-to-one or in small groups. Shari Rusch
Stumbling Blocks to Stepping Stones
In first grade, professional evaluations concluded that Shari Rusch could not be educated beyond a fifth grade level. They were wrong! Shari refused to allow this assessment, her learning disabilities, or any other handicap to become a stumbling block to the realization of her dreams.
With determination and the help of teachers, peers and family members, Shari overcame a number of challenges to finish high school with a 3.98 GPA and then graduate with Honors from the University of Washington. Shari holds a Masters Degree in Education with emphasis on At Risk Students and Multicultural Issues, and has published the inspirational book, Stumbling Blocks to Stepping Stones.
Travels from: Washington
Shari’s triumphant struggle with learning disabilities is only part of her story. Like so many children today, her childhood included the challenges of the “latchkey kid,” coping with divorce, separation, blended families, and economic insecurity. Additionally, Shari faced the loss of a loved one through suicide and includes a courageous, no-nonsense suicide prevention piece among her program topics.
Shari is a professional singer and songwriter who shares her story in a lively presentation which includes both humor and music. Her message touches the hearts and lives of all ages with a special warmth that inspires and empowers! From hyperactive, dyslexic, visually impaired, “latchkey” child, to author, lecturer, and teacher, Shari believes that, “No matter where you come from, no matter what challenges you face, every person has gifts, talents and a purpose in this life. Don’t ever give up on your dreams.”
Stumbling Blocks to Stepping Stones (youth)
With both words and music, Shari encourages students to take the obstacles in their lives and use them as stepping stones to a greater sense of self-worth and “abilities awareness.” Shari also emphasizes the importance of using the positive people and opportunities in one’s life to help overcome challenges. She easily folds in topics such as drug and alcohol awareness, suicide prevention, leadership skills and college/career motivation.
Stumbling Blocks to Stepping Stones (teachers, administrators, parents)
Having overcome personal handicaps and learning disabilities to become a successful writer and educator, Shari is able to offer wisdom and insights from three perspectives (teacher, student, and parent) on education, motivation and the special needs of all students.
She emphasizes the powerful difference one educator or one parent can make. Shari brings a personal spark to such topics as the “hidden handicaps,” finding potential in every child, positive parenting and strategies for the success of every child.

Johnnie Tuitel
Responsibility and Accountability
Speaker, author, entrepreneur, visionary, family man and world-traveler, Johnnie Tuitel is a man who thinks outside the wheelchair. And he helps others to focus on life’s potentials rather than its limitations.
Travels from: Michigan
To many, Johnnie Tuitel’s disability is a struggle. But to Johnnie, it’s just the way things are. Much of his positive attitude can be attributed to his upbringing. In 1963, doctors told Johnnie’s Dutch-immigrant parents that their son had cerebral palsy. “He’ll be a burden,” they said. “He won’t be able to lead a normal life.”
Ignoring the doctors, the Tuitels took their baby home to love him and to raise him. They encouraged him to focus on his abilities and to try anything and everything. Yes, there were cuts and bruises along the way, but they just increased his determination and toughened his resolve. Each struggle was a stepping-stone to a higher, yet undefined goal.
The goal became clearer in 1974 when Johnnie became the first student with a disability to be mainstreamed into the public school system. He not only completed public schooling, but went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Hope College in Holland, Michigan. And all this from a young man who wasn’t supposed to be able to lead a “normal” life.
Responsibility and Accountability
Doctors pretty much told Johnnie’s parents to put their infant son in an institution, and then go home and have “normal children.” The philosophy of life Johnnie grew up with—mainly, you don’t give up in the middle—is a much-needed message, especially in today’s culture.
Overcoming Fear
Small children often accept the disabilities of others more easily than do adults. Johnnie stepped into the cold shower of reality once he left public school and entered adulthood. Where kids asked questions, adults openly showed their disdain.
The Power of Empathy
Walk a mile in Johnnie’s shoes? Big deal. Try rolling a mile in his wheelchair. No one can perfectly understand what’s going on in another person’s life. We all have our own filters, experiences, perceptions. Learning to be empathic helps enrich all kinds of relationships.
The Power of Encouragement
Who doesn’t need a “well done,” once in awhile. Criticism of the negative kind damages the spirit. When Johnnie’s mom said, “I believe in you. We’re going to make a miracle happen today,” she empowered her son to be successful.
A Time to Challenge and a Time for Acceptance
Johnnie’s dream was to play high school football. After all, he did play grade-school football. But when it came time for him to be a lineman for the high school team, he was told he had to remain on the sidelines. The disappointment was overwhelming. Hard lessons often bring about solid character—foundational stones upon which people build their lives. But first, they have to learn when to challenge life and when to accept it.
Run the Good Race
He didn’t come in first, second or even third. But Johnnie completed the 10K race around Reeds Lake in East Grand Rapids, Michigan. And he finished it as he started it—on crutches. It was something he wanted to do—an accomplishment that meant weeks of training and discipline. He did it—not to win, but to finish.
Tim Gabrielson
The Magic of Comedy!
Comic magician, Tim Gabrielson, has one goal when he steps on stage: Keep It Funny! A native of Minnesota, Tim began performing at a local theme park at age 16. His comedic wit and natural timing combined with magical prowess quickly made him a park favorite and landed him a contract with a local agency. He soon became one of the Midwest’s youngest and fastest rising entertainers.
Travels from: Minnesota
Tim’s shows exceeded 200 per year and provided limitless exposure to every imaginable audience; which gave him the additional ability to handle any crowd. His increasing popularity took him from a best kept secret among the college market to a highly sought after performer and speaker.
Tim’s business is magic, but for this consummate professional it’s much more than the tricks. “People are always talking about the technicality of magic. You have to be good, but the magic by itself is meaningless. Do you entertain the crowd? Can you grab an audience in the first few minutes and hold their attention? You can be a fabulous magician, but if you can’t entertain the crowd, people aren’t going to come back. I don’t want to be just a good magician. I want to be a great entertainer.”
Tim’s “keep it funny” philosophy is apparent throughout his laugh-a-minute- show. He prides himself in providing a clean performance in which he takes it to the line, but never crosses. His wide appeal makes his a show enjoyable for all types of audiences. And it didn’t take long to gain the attention of agents and producers alike; which landed him fill-in spots for Vegas headliners like Ron Lucas and Mac King before acquiring his own room on the Strip. Tim recently finished his first year headlining at Mandalay Bay’s House of Blues on the Vegas strip!
Jason Barber
The Consequences of Drunk Driving
In 1991, Jason was racing friends and driving drunk. They all thought they were just having a good time, but that changed in a split second when he caused a crash that killed his 15 year-old brother, Aaron. Jason was convicted of vehicular manslaughter for the death of his little brother, and sent to state prison on a six year sentence. He was released in 1995 after serving three and a half years and has been sober ever since.
Jason also facilitated teen and parent outreach groups in the evenings, teaching parenting skills and communication techniques for better teen/parent relationships. This has given him the opportunity to meet three other families who have suffered similar losses because of drunk driving. These families allow Jason to tell their story along with his own, in the hopes that other families will not ever have to endure such pain.
Travels from: California
In the time since his prison release, Jason has furthered his education as a Human Services major with an emphasis on Drug and Alcohol Counseling. For the past three years he has worked in local high schools as a facilitator of drug and alcohol groups for at-risk youth.
Spreading this message across America is what Jason does full time. Jason has been written about in numerous newspapers, appeared on local cable talk shows and has been a guest on the nationally televised LEEZA SHOW. He is currently writing a book detailing his life as an alcoholic and addict, Aaron’s death, prison and the grace that saved his life.
All programs are suitable for teenagers, educators and parent groups.
It’s Not an Accident: The Consequences of Drunk Driving
Jason shares true stories about the consequences of drunk driving. He explains to
audiences that drunk driving is NOT an accident. Drunk driving is a CHOICE.

Judson Laipply
Evolution of Dance
Judson Laipply has been described in many ways by many people. Perhaps the perfect description came early in his speaking career when someone called him and “Inspirational Comedian” and the combination was right on.
Funny enough to be a comedian (he won the only contest he ever entered), educated enough to teach college (he taught several classes and turned down an offer to teach full-time), and lucky enough to learn that combination is one of the most powerful mediums for addressing anyone.
People like to laugh and people like to learn. Judson gives all of his audiences both. His keynotes or assemblies are the perfect balance of laughter and thought-provoking ideas.
Travels from: Ohio
His finale “The Evolution of Dance” (a hilarious routine of the last 50 years of popular dance moves) has been hailed as “The funniest thing ever” and ends his shows on a super high. From the moment he steps on stage until he dances away his audiences are laughing and learning!
His wide background of experiences including: working on a cruise ship, managing a Dominos Pizza, being a published author and poet, earning a Master’s Degree in Education, Hosting the Miss Minnesota and Miss South Dakota USA pageants, being a certified aerobics instructor, and much more allow him to relate to almost any audience. Winner of many awards including Speaking of the year by campusawards.com and his favorite “Coolest Uncle” by his 7 year old nephew.
“Inspirational Comedy”
His most requested show – “Inspirational Comedy” is just that – funny and inspiring! Judson talks about the two main realities in life:
1. There are things in life that you cannot change.
2. There are things in life that you can change.
By helping students to understand the difference between the two and by showing them how to control the things they can Judson gives students the simplest formula for creating the life they want. You can create any change in your life through the choices you make.
This program can be molded for many different topics with specific examples and explanations and has been presented on bullying and respect, alcohol and drugs, general motivation, classroom commitment, and much more.
Capped with “The Evolution of Dance” this program is one that people never forget.
From Playdates to Prom: Relationship and Dating in Youth
Times have changed since the good old days of going steady and wearing a guy’s letterman sweater. Fact is

This program will cover basics of relationships such as: Stages of a relationship, Understanding Attraction, ways to tell if someone is interested, common myths, Characteristics of Healthy Relationships, and much more. Sexual education can be included or excluded depending on the school preference.
Dating, relationships, and sex take up a large chunk of teenager’s thought process and most of the time they are unaware of what is going on. Things they see on TV or at the movies become reality to them. This program assists by being educational and entertaining while helping students to better understand their relationships.

Students today need a speaker who can connect with them on a personal level – a dynamic speaker who can hold their attention with humor, interaction and passionate stories.

Matt has more than fifteen years of drug and alcohol prevention experience.
As a stand-up comedian, Matt is a regular at comedy clubs in New York City and across the East Coast. Matt’s comedy is sharp, honest and always consistent with his message. He performs regularly at the legendary Caroline’s on Broadway and Stand-Up NY. In fact, two of his jokes were featured in The New York Times. In 2005, Matt performed at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal.
Travels from: New York
Matt has more than fifteen years of drug and alcohol prevention experience. In 1993, as a Bucknell University sophomore, he founded a grassroots prevention group called C.A.L.V.I.N. & H.O.B.B.E.S. (Creating A Lively Ingenious New Habit Of Being (at) Bucknell (and) Enjoying Sobriety). Former Bucknell president, William “Bro” Adams, referred to the organization as “revolutionary.” In 1996, the group moved into a 23-bedroom, former fraternity house on campus, prompting US News & World Report to remark, “how times have changed.”
A member of the National Speakers Association, Matt has been speaking nationally and internationally for over a decade. His “How to Get High, Naturally!” program has been best described as a combination of interactive demonstrations, inspirational stories and stand-up comedy. Dr. Bellace has spoken at national conferences, such as Youth to Youth, PRIDE and FCCLA. His schedule regularly includes over 100 high school and college programs across the country.
In June 2005, Matt achieved his greatest accomplishment to date. He received a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Drexel University (Philadelphia, PA). Dr. Bellace’s subspecialty is child and adolescent neuropsychology, the study of the developing brain and behavior. He completed his internship at The Mount Sinai Medical Center (NYC), working with patients on the Traumatic Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury units. Dr. Bellace’s dissertation topic was emotional memory, an expertise that is not lost when he presents to an audience. As a speaker, Matt delivers an impactful program, using every aspect of his life experience.
Dr. Bellace’s primary goal is to encourage young people to pursue natural highs and make healthy choices. He believes that by empowering students to make healthy choices and pursue natural highs, students will be less likely to abuse substances.

Heather Schultz
Becasuse youth matter
Greetings y’all! Thank you for clicking on my tab. This means we share the same passion…bring positive change to our world. Please allow me to introduce myself to you. My name is Heather Schultz and I currently live in Atlanta, GA. I’m not a Georgia Peach Native but have pleasantly adapted to the slow pace and charm of a southern lifestyle. The loaded question is always, “So how did you get started speaking?” I didn’t seek it out that is for sure. I didn’t even know what a keynote speaker was. I was born in Michigan and from an early age I always had the performing bug… singing, dancing, acting, and baton twirling. If there was a stage I was on it! I was the annoying kid who performed at every family gathering!
During high school I traveled with a performing arts troupe. We traveled all over the United States performing spreading a positive & uplifting message. One tour came through Atlanta and I met a man who was the president of a non-profit drug prevention agency. He and I instantly connected and kept in touch. I was in my sophomore year of college majoring in what else…theater and dance. My sister and I received a phone call from this gentleman offering us both jobs in Atlanta. His organization at that time was an adult only program and he wanted to bring youth into the picture.
We both accepted the jobs and moved to Atlanta. I knew I wanted to bring the performing arts into this new position. My job included auditioning young people from all over the nation to serve as youth trainers, writing workshops, planning and facilitating weekend retreats, and organizing an annual national conference. I wore many hats from workshop facilitator to conference planner. I was also responsible for hiring conference keynote speakers and that is where my horizons were broadened. I began to see keynote speakers on stage and in action and thought I would love to do that. My first professional conference keynote was in 1989 and I was hooked. I had found my passion and it felt amazing!
I really didn’t know where this “speaking thing” would take me so I went to school to become a paramedic and then went on to earn my nursing degree. I’m a R.N. and do work part-time leaving time for my speaking engagement. In 1991 I decided to start speaking professionally and on a full-time basis and haven’t looked back since!
I speak on leadership, personal power, anti-bullying, drug and alcohol prevention, positive choices, and achieving greatness. I’m silly, goofy, and have been known to embarrass my friends in public places! I’m passionate and love life. I believe I have found my purpose in life…changing lives!
Travels from: Georgia
Heather has worked with HBO, appeared in People Magazine, on numerous radio and television specials and has co-authored several books for young people. She has spoken in 47 states and 7 other countries including: Guatemala, Canada, Costa Rica, Germany, Europe, Puerto Rico and throughout the Caribbean Islands. She attended Central Michigan University and has a degree in the field of nursing. Heather is a nationally renowned expert on youth issues and a highly requested speaker that keeps her in constant demand.
Attitude is Everything!
Attitude is everything! Heather will inspire your students to simply “believe.” Believe in their ability to make a difference, achieve greatness, over-come obstacles, and exercise their individual power. Through personal stories, crowd interaction, humor and honesty, Heather provides students with the tools to live more powerfully.
Heather encourages students to adopt a winning attitude and to understand that because they matter—their decisions matter. A winning attitude comes from positive choices which will last a lifetime. Heather believes that every person deserves to feel worthy, respected and loved. Through personal stories and a strong anti-bullying message, students learn that an uplifting attitude changes lives. Students are inspired to take an inventory of their lives and leave motivated to exercise their personal power as a leader or simply as a person. Heather’s message touches lives and every audience walks away wanting more!
Live, Laugh & LEAD!
Warning…this workshop is only for people who like to laugh, interact, talk and never sit down! Participants will assess their leadership potential and learn the importance of leadership characteristics being applied to every day living. Participants leave ready to begin immediately using the skills learned and practiced during this workshop.
Got Courage?
Every person deserves to feel worthy, respected and loved. Heather will teach students how to create a school atmosphere where teasing and bullying is not accepted and not “cool”. This program introduces the concept at a school assembly then continues with 1-hour workshops in individual classrooms. (Role playing and anti-bullying strategies offered in classroom?)
Lights, Camera…Caution!
The media is a huge influence in our world. But what are those influences? Glamorizing alcohol, drugs, sex, and risky behaviors? The messages of prime time, magazines, movies and music are explored and strategies to NOT be easily influenced are presented. The web can be a scary place and we now live in a society where the computer invites social networking, cyber-bulling and predators into our homes! The goal of this workshop is to give the tools needed to keep young people safe and parents informed.
Where Do You Stand?
Taking the time to communicate with one another leads to better understanding of all people. Participants are presented scenarios and are given the opportunity to share their personal stance. They are then lead through a group discussion regarding each situation. Tolerance versus judgment is encouraged.

About Joel’s positive approach
Students are constantly bombarded with negative approaches to making the right choices, “Don’t do drugs, Don’t be a bully. Don’t mess up like I did.” They are often told what not to do, but rarely told what to do. From his platform as a champion, Joel brings a POSITIVE MESSAGE to students that is both relevant and impactful. Combining humor and sincerity, Joel gives a REAL-LIFE EXAMPLE of the rewards that result from making right choices. His stories of personal trials and subsequent triumphs are proof that ordinary people can accomplish great things by simply following through with their commitments.
About Joel’s Stand Your Ground Theme
What does it mean to stand your ground? People today are constantly making commitments and breaking them. Look at divorce rates, credit card debts, New Year’s resolutions… and the list of unfulfilled promises goes on. Is it even possible to keep our commitments?
Joel Penton says, “Yes it is possible” - he knows from experience. Like most of your students, Joel was put into situations in Middle school and high school where it would have been easy to compromise and break his commitments. However, he chose to rise above the pressure and keep the commitments he made in school, in football, and in life.
Joel will say that it takes character, it takes will and the road will be hard. But his personal experience is proof that ordinary people can accomplish great things by simply following through with the commitments they have made. Your students will be inspired and reminded of the importance of not just making commitments, but also keeping those commitments.

He is proof that you don’t have to let adversity hold you down in life; you have a fascinating and inspiring destiny awaiting you.
Travels from: California
Derek W. Clark is an Inspiring Motivational Speaker and the Author of the I Will Never Give Up book series which includes the award winning and critic acclaimed autobiographical books “I Will Never Give Up”, “I Will Never Give Up For The Teenager” and “I Will Never Give Up On God Again”. Derek spent 13 years in the foster care system.
At five years old his mother and stepfather turned him over to the county social services and yet, they kept his brother and sister. His father who he has never known was in jail for the criminally insane. As a foster child, Derek was disturbed and erratic. Having suffered child abuse and abandonment, he was prone to severe distress and crippling depression. He has been “labeled and misdiagnosed” in almost every psychological evaluation in existence.
As a helpless child, Derek was nearly institutionalized due to severe erratic behavioral problems and violent tendencies. He is a survivor of brutal child abuse, and was diagnosed early on as mentally handicapped with an IQ of a two and half year old and suffered aretic psychosis. As he developed, it became clear to his wonderful foster parents that this diagnosis was without merit.
Derek has learned some very difficult lessons growing up as a troubled teenager. As a foster youth, he wanted to go back and live with his mom but that never happened. He felt rejected and became an angry teenager. He was constantly in trouble because of his difficulties dealing with his anger, respecting others and trusting adults. Even against unbelievable odds, Derek never gave up, using music, laughter, will power, and positive decision-making to triumph over adversity.
He reveals how he overcame his adversities and how he triumphed in his personal life. He takes you down his road of lessons that he has learned of hate, anger, resentment, mistrust in adults, violent tendencies, rejection, lack of love, child abuse and the memories that have haunted his life. Derek believes he has successfully thrived as a leader in life because of his painful past, compassion for others and living a No Excuse life.
YOUTH EVENTS
Most youth are fighting a constant battle within themselves. Their personal battle might be a lack of self value, loss of self respect, loneliness, being labeled, trust, love, depression, insecurity, addiction or a sense of wanting to belong. The key to reinforcing hope is that their lyrics must have a triumphant and inspiring ending.
Their individual journey must reflect hope, self respect, perseverance and victory. The youth are making a goal and writing their destiny in the format of song lyrics. They are looking past their problems and charting a different course for their life. There renewed Hope will fuel their faith in their ability to conquering self esteem issues, depression, addictions, loneliness and self respect.
After the audience listens to Derek’s Inspiring story of overcoming adversity and sharing his leadership tools, the audience is now ready to inspire others. Derek uses music to show the audience how they can change the direction of their life by creating a new destiny. The audience is instructed on how to write lyrics in a song format. The classroom audience is split into groups of seven.. They write down their hardest struggles and darkest fears as well as their hopes and dreams. They are given a sample sheet to show the word and syllable arrangement to flow with the music that Derek has already created. (Music ranges from top 40 pop, rap and rock)
They are encouraged to turn their struggles into lyrics. This applies to a tragedy from the past that is holding them back from moving forward in their life. The second verse must reflect a solution to their struggle. The lyrics must be specific and contain no vulgarities or language that is violent or disrespectful. When they are done completing their lyrics, they have the opportunity to sing their song in front of the others as Derek accompanies them with his pre-programmed music. If the group is shy or does not feel comfortable about singing their song, Derek will then sing their song and dedicate it to the particular group. (groups are encouraged to sing their own songs) Each song will be recorded on a CD for future reflection.
The U-R.O.C.K program symbolizes the awakening of the voice from their soul.
Derek helps the youth modify their limited perception. A lot of youth go through high school feeling lost and hopeless. Derek helps them change their focus to see, feel and actually Hear Hope. Music is the tool that speaks to the youth on a lyrical level, whether it is Rap, Rock, Heavy Metal or Country. They communicate through sad songs, love songs, angry songs, promiscuous songs and gangster songs. This music is communicating to our youth and then they act out what they hear. It is important in this program that they change the way they perceive the present moment.
- Clarify their struggles and battles that are holding them back from excelling
- Find the empowerment to accomplish the life goals they set
- Develop their Personal Power Anthem (song) that will help strengthen their hearts and minds in their everyday struggles

SCHOOL ASSEMBLY PROGRAMS
David’s assembly program not only entertains, it educates as well. The program has been called a “magnetic time of interaction” in which David demonstrates, explains, and then invites the students to join with him as they sing with their hands.
Audiences are encouraged to participate by becoming totally involved in the sign, and song learning experience. Learning in this situation is definitely “hands on”!
Students are encouraged to participate. The audience interacts with David as he weaves his way among them. Drawing a few from the crowd, David and friends proceed to center stage to sign a little, dance a little, and have a lot of fun while they are learning!
David as a role model during and after the performance is magical to watch. The students observe someone who has become their friend, interact with all of their classmates.
When students watch David, they can’t help but sign and move along with him. This requires the ability not only to watch, but also to observe keenly, imitate and re-create, which is central to the performing arts, in addition to being important learning skills.
The “message” continues even after the music has stopped, autographs have been signed, and high fives have been shared. The memory of this unique adventure in sign language lasts for a long time.

PROGRAMS
Give & Grow Rich: Success Strategies for Superior Student Service
Is your work a job or a joy? If you ask the “average” employee or staff person how he or she feels about their job, adjectives like frustrated, stressed, underpaid, overworked, understaffed and unmotivated would all be common responses. For these staff members, work feels more like a burden than a blessing. Most of these employees find themselves just “going through the motions.”
Staff (and student leaders) will learn how to:
- Challenge themselves to serve their members/co-workers better.
- Unlock the secret of staying self-motivated even during the rough times.
- Lead others by example, not excuses.
- Accept responsibility for their personal and professional development.
- Overcome obstacles by identifying their professional “blind spots.”
Get a Grip: Taking Control of Your Emotional and Mental Attitude
Are you out of control? Many students and staff are looking to blame anything or anyone for “their” failure. True leaders realize that nothing is ever going to change unless they accept responsibility for changing them. Our attitude is either an incentive or deterrent to others. It starts with taking control.
Staff (and students) will learn how to:
- Accept responsibility for their results as well as their actions.
- Effectively deal with difficult co-workers and students.
- Control the two greatest motivating forces in our lives.
- Lead with integrity by continually examining their own attitudes.
- Get off the emotional roller coaster of anger, hopelessness, and frustration.
Tricks of the Grade: Street-smart Strategies for Acing College
Is all this really worth it? If you ask the “average” student how he or she feels about school, adjectives like frustrated, stressed, bored, confused, disorganized, unmotivated, and unfocused would all be popular responses. For these students, college is more like a nightmare than a dream come true. Students find themselves just going through the motions-treating college like a speed bump to a degree.
Students will learn how to:
- Earn at least a “B” in every course. GUARANTEED!
- Get inside information from every professor (ethically).
- Stay motivated in spite of “boring” professors.
- Position themselves for higher grades on the first day of class.
- Master the best kept secret to academic success.
- Ace “boring” courses and tame tough professors.
Waking the Dead: Living with Purpose, Passion, & Power!
Why am I here? As alcohol abuse, drop-out, and burn-out rates of students continue to increase, students are losing sight of the value of their lives. As a result, they are confused and unfocused because they lack a clear and definite purpose. When there is no clear purpose for your life, there is no passion for it; and when there is no passion, there is no motivation to succeed.
Students will learn how to:
- Identify, accept, and maximize their unique talents, skills, and abilities.
- Get and stay self-motivated and internally (not money) driven.
- Stop themselves and others from sabotaging their success.
- Become 100% committed to their purpose in spite of their problems.
- The secret to turning their passion into a paycheck.
Additional programs on diversity and decision making are also available.

Bob Fellows
Do the Impossible
Students are often surrounded by pressures that can tie them up in knots. They feel hounded by manipulation forces: advertising, media, even friends that try to control their feelings, decisions, and actions. Bob Fellows involves his audience in discovering how they are being manipulated, how it affects their lives, and how easily they can lose control and start letting others decide how they live. He has an unusual flair for the dramatic and a strong commitment to helping young people take greater control of their lives.
To demonstrate innovation and creativity, Bob escapes from 100 feet of rope in less time than it takes audience members to tie him up. Each amazing feat, gives him an opportunity to teach an important lesson. He is an educator who promotes self-esteem, and an international magician who specializes in mentalism and escape artistry. Having performed and taught for over 20 years, Bob combines speech and performance in a spectacular, fast-paced and meaningful program.
Bob holds a Masters Degree in Theology from Harvard University and is author of Easily Fooled: New Insights and Techniques for Resisting Manipulation. He has given major presentations to the staff of the White House and has appeared on national television shows. He is also been consulted as a trial expert on “manipulation and deception in groups” and has published articles on psychological manipulation.
PROGRAMS:
DO THE IMPOSSIBLE (youth)
Bob inspires students to challenge the impossible and reach for their highest goals. He applies the metaphor of escape artistry to dramatize how students can look at problems in new ways. He focuses on: challenging assumptions, exercising more of your mind, making a commitment, using the power of suggestion, and assuming self-responsibility.
MIND OVER MANIPULTATION (youth)
Students discover how they are being manipulated, how it affects their lives, and how easily they can lose control and start letting others decide how they act. Abusing tobacco, alcohol or other drugs is just one symptom of being manipulated into giving up control. Fellows contrast the innocence of being fooled by his illusions to the dangers of being fooled into making unhealthy choices. Students will learn to take charge!
FIVE STEPS TO CLASSROOM WELLNESS (educators)
Some teachers seem to model an attitude that is positive, inclusive and optimistic. They treat obstacles as challenges and enjoy open and healthy communications. Bob has interviewed teacher known for these traits. Using his captivating and informative style, Bob presents the five principals they follow: encourage, include, listen, be approachable and be well.
PERSONAL RESILIENCY FOR TEACHERS (educators)
Learn to be strong and flexible in dealing with change and to take charge of your life. A personality questionnaire helps teachers determine which resiliency tactic will work best for them. The ability to embrace a changing environment stimulates teachers to be more innovative and creative in the classroom and in their lives.

Ben Glenn
The Chalk Guy - The Simple ADHD Expert
Ben Glenn was diagnosed with Dyslexia and other Learning Disabilities while in grade school. As an adult he also learned that he has ADHD and suddenly everything about his life made perfect sense.
Dropping out of college to pursue a love of art and speaking, Ben has been on the road, full-time since 1995, traveling to every part of the United States as well as to more remote places like China and Australia. He blames his ADHD…but he’s secretly happy about it.
Ben’s ADHD-adventure filled messages of inspiration and hope are both entertaining and educational. Youth relate to his struggles for acceptance in school, parents and teachers get an insider’s perspective on what it’s like to grow up “different”, “special”. Over the years, Ben has spoken to thousands of people honing his ability to take complex, emotionally-charged subjects and give his audience a fresh, easy-to-digest perspective that produces real change in attitudes, goals and motivations.
Travels from: Indiana
You see, Ben belongs to an ever-growing group of individuals, who took their disability turned it upside down and discovered that they have ALL kinds of abilities that “normal” people just don’t have.
Years of living with and studying ADHD have brought Ben to the firm conclusion that ADHD impairs a person’s life the most when that person is trapped in an ADHD-unfriendly environment or does not possess the information they need in order to deal with their symptoms in the right way. Obviously, it may be a long time before much changes about the way typical schools operate, or the way a corporation expects their employees to behave, but meantime, Ben is sharing everything he has learned about ADHD with anyone who will listen. And lots of people are listening!
Finally, as much as Ben loves being a speaker and performing artist, he loves being a husband and father more. Married for over thirteen years, he, his wife and two daughters live in a great little city called Indianapolis.
FOR TEACHERS
Simply Special - Signature Message! - 60 minutes (includes drawing)
So how does a kid who started out in an LD classroom in third grade, barely graduated high school and dropped out of college to pursue a passion for speaking and art, end up with three books to his name and find himself traveling all over the world to share his message of hope and inspiration? Of course, there are many factors that have contributed to Ben’s success, but one of them, unquestionably, is the two teachers who made a huge difference in his life while he was in school. This is a story that all educators should hear! In the day-to-day bustle that is teaching, it is easy to forget the impact that a teacher has on her students. Think those kids aren’t paying attention? Think again!
This presentation is high energy with lots of humor and will re-energize the most bone-weary group reminding them why they became teachers in the first place and letting them know beyond any doubt that they are making a difference whether they know it or not…they just need to decide whether it will be for good or bad.
An excellent keynote to kick off or close out your conference or teacher in-service.
Simply Sensational - 60 minutes (includes drawing)
Ben shares in greater detail about ADHD. Learn the secrets of an ADHDer’s inner workings! Get a better understanding on why those kids do what they do and learn that ADHD is not about lack of displine and that it is much more than just a mental disorder. This presentation is getting thumbs up whereever Ben goes, because everything he shares is simple, easily digestible and practical. And stories - there are lots of stories! No more boring medical facts and DSM-IV definititions! Ben will only share information that’s relevant. Teachers will be able to apply what they learn in this session in their very next class.
This session can also segue into a Q & A session and integrates seamlessly with Simply Special for a 120 minute session.

Travels from: Texas
Aric is proof that setting goals and striving to live your dreams can happen no matter what your circumstances. He understands from personal experience that many students don’t have the “perfect” home life. Divorce, emotional neglect, instability and verbal or physical abuse can certainly create a sense of self-doubt and can hamper one’s ability to achieve in school and in life.
Aric faced some of these very same circumstances as a teen, but rather than surrender, he decided to harness his energy to do something positive to change things in his own life.
That’s why in high school, Aric decided to leave his mother’s home in Houston and move back to San Antonio with his father. He was determined to make a change not only in where he lived but how he lived his life. So he began accompanying his father, a recovered alcoholic, to hear inspirational speakers and participate in deep therapeutic sessions. These experiences taught Aric how to take personal responsibility for the way he thought, the way he behaved, and -ultimately- what he achieved in life.
Aric began that quest by going to college and becoming a teacher at San Antonio’s Judson High School. He saw that his students needed someone to help guide them and inspire them, just as he had when he was a teen. It became his mission to help his students overcome the personal stories that were holding them back. He started by launching an after school program called the Goal Setters Club. He quickly saw how powerful this experience was and what a difference it made in students’ lives. So he decided to reach as many students as possible, and that’s how his career as a motivational speaker came to be.
In the past decade, Aric has spoken to over a half million students across the United States on how to be true to themselves; to live their dreams, not someone else’s. He teaches actionable lessons on how to succeed at the game of life, by making good choices, staying in school, being a role model and helping others see their own potential.
Aric’s presentations and workshops for parents and teachers are just as powerful: firing them up to make a difference in young people’s lives, showing them what it takes to be a great parent and teacher, and sharing with them the communication and motivation tools he’s found work with students.

Albert Mensah
Rising from humble beginnings in Ghana
Albert Mensah was born and lived the first nineteen years of his life in Ghana (Africa). Born in a mud hut and living far from any urban center. Albert’s life was hard. When he was just a small boy he carried water several miles each day to help his family survive.
Albert’s powerful message of hope and inspiration is based on his own life experience as he shares the practical skills and tools he used to become successful. Albert believes that any person can become more successful if they can conceive a powerful dream that touches the heart of their existence. Albert’s life in Africa and his amazing success since coming to America demonstrates that high achievement always begins with Aiming High in the pursuit of such a dream.
Travels from: Maryland
When Albert was eight he saw his first movie. It was an American movie and he saw people wearing shoes. Every person in the movie wore shoes. At that moment Albert conceived the first dream of his life: He dreamed of going to America to live! He did not know how it could become possible, but he believed he could and would. Someday he would live where everybody had shoes. Without even realizing it, Albert had deployed the most powerful principle that permits human success and achievement. Albert had learned to Aim High! He spent the next eleven year putting himself in position to turn his dream into reality.
After Albert decided he would come to America his friend in Africa teased and ridiculed him. His nickname became “States” and it was not meant to be complimentary or supportive. After all, how could a poor little boy stuck in grinding poverty wind up in America? Where would he get the money to go? How would such a thing be possible? Even if he did make it to America how would he earn a living? Was his dream to become a cab driver in New York? Any reasonable person would know that circumstances like these would be impossible to overcome. Albert heard all these gloomy predictions but never quit believing he could come to American and be successful.
During his high school years Albert wrote hundreds of American colleges trying to obtain a scholarship. Ultimately, Western Maryland College near Baltimore contacted Albert and invited him to come. This was the ticket to America Albert had relentlessly pursued for so long. Today, Albert is an American Citizen and has become one of the most sought after motivational speakers in the world. Albert Mensah, the hopeful immigrant from Africa has become America’s Dream Engineer.

“The day of the conference, Laurie exceeded any expectations we could have had. Her ability to engage each student, respect each student, and honor the differences in each student had a group of 185 7th - 12th graders sharing, taking risks, celebrating themselves and others and motivated to go into their world as kinder, more respectful people. The impact Laurie made is still being felt among those who planned and those who attended the conference. Students have recognized their ability to change the environment at home and at school through the simplicity of kindness.
As an adult leader I am particularly touched by Laurie’s ability to allow students to direct the course of her work. She listens to these young people, eager to hear their observations and wisdom and weaves her knowledge with their ideas. It is very obvious that Laurie thrives on her work with young people. Her skills as a facilitator have been keenly tuned and are evident at the end of the day when each young person stands in line to thank her for her presence.”
“Thank you so much for helping us out with the youth conference and going above and beyond – you were the highlight of our tobacco prevention youth summit!”
