ABOUT COMMON GROUND NOW
Common Ground Now is a dynamic, experiential program that shifts school culture and builds safer, more inclusive campus communities. Schools are increasingly being forced to deal with bullying, harassment, absenteeism, and other consequences of the unprecedented social pressures and emotional stress facing students. In order to create a unified and positive climate and culture, schools have to break through the anger, fear, and resentment that divides students. Common Ground Now is designed specifically to develop self-awareness and empathy in participants so they can create meaningful connections across peer groups, regardless of their backgrounds or beliefs. The best way to build a positive and compassionate school culture is by investing in the social and emotional development of students.
Common Ground Now gives students the opportunity to hear their peers’ stories and to tell their own in a safe environment with peer and professional support. Students will learn practical skills that they can immediately use to improve their lives and change their school. We help create secure spaces for students to take risks, express their feelings, and be vulnerable with their peers to forge lasting relationships with students that they normally would not interact with.
We use facilitated discussions, experiential activities, simulations, and dialogues that are specifically designed to help students develop and practice the skills that will empower them to change their school culture. Common Ground Now program themes include:

HALF DAY OVERVIEW
FIMAGE
The primary factor that stops learning and stunts community is fear of image. Every teen and teacher has a fear of what other people think about them. We call this Fear of Image, or FIMAGE. This module is aimed at reducing this fear by creating a safe, participatory context for this training. Mistakes will be part of the learning process and everyone will be out of their comfort zone together.
Integrity
The very core of leadership is integrity. We define integrity as the ability to match your values and your behaviors. This module allows individual students to take a good, deep look at themselves to see what their values are, how they show them and how to be open and non judgemental towards their peers values.
Intrapersonal Skills
Intrapersonal skills are becoming a lost art in this day and age of virtual communications and work against building culture. A firm handshake, eye contact, listening skills, asking questions are skills that will make a young leader stand out.

Breaking Paradigms
Learning becomes stagnant because we fall into routines. We do the same things, with the same people, in the same places every day. This causes the brain to go on autopilot and things begin to be boring. This game-based module will challenge students to re-awaken their brain and to challenge their paradigms. They will break through the boredom of their autopilot by beginning to challenge what they think they know.
Team Development
Much of this program is designed to take full advantage of team dynamics. School tends to isolate teens, having them work mostly on their own. This program will develop positive social interaction skills by utilizing team dynamics each and every day. This module will begin the process of building multiple teams in the training room. These teams will work, play and support each other throughout the week.
Collaboration vs. Competition
Competition kills sharing. Sharing is essential for learning and progress. Leaders of the future will find greater success via collaboration. Collaboration creates a win-win dynamic, gives us access to more resources, allows us to accelerate progress and reduces stress. This game-based module challenges teams to solve a problem with limited resources, tough conditions and time constraints.
