“Get busy living or get busy dying.” Andy Dufresne’s famous quote in The Shawshank Redemption eloquently depicts the illuminating and intentional creativity of Sabrina Thompson, a filmmaker, photographer, artist, and activist. Thompson owns and operates KUU Productions, a boutique media production company specializing in commercials, social media campaigns, photography, and the development of scripted + unscripted content. Thompson’s clientele includes a host of global brands such as (but not limited to) Google, The Recording Academy, Warner Brothers Discovery, Sundance, and RocNation Sports. Her work has been featured on/in The New York Times, NBC, The Smithsonian Magazine, the U.S. Embassy in Rwanda and more. In 2016, she was selected to be one of the cinematographers for Hillary Clinton’s Presidential campaign, and in 2017, Sabrina was the lead photographer of the historic Women’s March in DC. In 2022, she received a first-look deal with Warner Media Discovery to develop her dystopian coming-of-age drama, Clovers. Showing a propensity for celebrating icons within the culture, she’s also directed and produced short film tributes for Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, Angela Bassett, Usher, and Deion Sanders. Thompson has earned spots at The Chateau Orquevaux Artist Residency in France, the Rosa Rebellion Compose in Austin, TX, and is currently a Soho House fellow to expand her portfolio of painting and writing projects.

Beyond her creative achievements, Sabrina’s professional endeavors have also been aligned with her passion for fighting injustice and utilizing her artistry. She is deeply involved in the empowerment of young BIPOC women and is the co-founder of the non-profit WEEN, Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network where over 80,000 young adult women were empowered for over a decade. She spent five years teaching high school English and Public Speaking in Brooklyn. Thompson spent several years as a producer for Court TV Network and Columbia TriStar Television. While spending thousands of hours off-camera in the industry, she eventually went on-camera by appearing on Season 24 of Survivor on CBS, where she was runner-up. After her success on the globally renowned show, she helped spearhead a diversity task force with CBS executives to ensure responsible imagery of people of color on unscripted shows.

Thompson is currently creating her first self-published photography coffee table book called The Ridiculous Ones, a collection of portraits featuring elders who have a ridiculously inspiring approach to life. Sabrina earned a BA in Communications from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Masters in Education from Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York.
